ABPmer was contracted by the Environment Agency to record the sediment properties in the intertidal zone of the Bristol Channel and Severn Estuary coastlines, between Sharpness and Porlock Bay.
The study was undertaken to better understand the variation in the bed characteristics in front of coastal defences to assist with their future management.
ABPmer’s in-house surveyors took surface and sub-surface sediment samples at 1km spacing near Mean High Water and across the intertidal area. The collected sediments were then characterised through particle size analysis. The results were subsequently made available via the EA SANDS database.
ABPmer's oceanographers deliver a comprehensive understanding of physical processes for marine projects and developments through the collection and processing of current flow, wave and water quality characteristics. Learn more about our oceanographic survey capability.
